Started in the 1970's by Frank and Chris Spiegel, the Miss Chris Marina has been a mainstay of the commercial passenger carrying business for more than a century. This area first grew in popularity with the new phenomenon of charter boat and party boat fishing around the turn of the century 1900. The fisherman express was a direct line from 30th street station in Philadelphia and its final destination was the property here at the Miss Chris Marina. The Train would depart on Friday evening and have eager anglers on location for early morning assualts. The waiting party boats would fill to almost over flowing, back in the days of little regulation, and go out to load up on huge fluke and monster blues. The area had been known for commercial fishing for years and many of the captains who made this daring switch to carrying people for hire, made a killing. Through the years the area went through ups and downs. Proabition would bring the advent of rum runners. The Great Depression would bring rise to fishing for food. WWII would bring rise to boats being turned over to war time service and U-boat watches. After this time, into the 50's the modern day idea of the party boat started to gather steam. New advances in construction brought about a flurry of new designs and builders, many of which are still in existance today. Cross plankers, WWII surplus Air Sea Rescue and PT Boats, Minesweapers, Double Diagonal planking, double planked, steel, and then fiberglass over wood, all glass and aluminum came into being. Today, the Marina has several types of party boats, charter boats, eco tour boats, cruisers and rental boats, kayaks, and sail boats available. We also feature the Dancing Dolphin Gift Shop for all of your Nautical Gift Needs. We have the Miss Chris Tackle Shop, started by Frank himself, and mostly unchanged from its early days. Franks original boats, the Miss Chris II and the Lady Chris are now owned by Fred Ascoli. Fred does not own the Miss Chris Marina, but does own the Harborview Marina. He can be seen there, at the Harborview 7 days a week, since he retired as a captain. The Owners of the Marina are Jeff Stewart and his wife Mary Stewart, and Bob Lubberman.
